North America consists of twenty-three countries, and of those, Canada was the second to legalize the marijuana plant for medical and recreational use country-wide. The marijuana plant is celebrated through events that highlight the plant, and some of these gatherings are commonly titled cannabis cup events.

Hempfest

Hempfest is a growing cannabis event that presents cannabis cup winners with recognition in selected categories. Hempfest 2021 is in Calgary, Canada, this year. Mark your calendars; the date for this cannabis cup event is September 10 &11, 2021. The Canada Olympic Park WinSport will be the venue location. If you choose to consume cannabis, you are welcome to partake with a smile at this cannabis cup event.

This gathering is geared to all levels of growers, from amateur to professional,
who think that they have what is needed to become one of the cannabis cup winners. Each grower's entry will be judged by a prestigious panel of judges who will deliver a full analysis of each entry. Lucky cannabis cup winners are broken down into categories.

  • Highest THC flower
  • Judges choice
  • Best Hybrid flower
  • Highest CBD flower

The Emerald Cup

The Emerald Cup competition is regarded as one of the most respected and largest outdoor farming cannabis competitions in the world. The Emerald cup prides itself on bringing together some of the top experts and educators in the marijuana industry as well as patrons and patients yearly. The year's finest, organic sun-grown marijuana is celebrated by the community. This event due to COVID is a  live stream event streaming on April 11th of this year.

High Times Cannabis Cup

A new element was introduced to the High Time Cannabis Cup competitions due to our being faced with the COVID pandemic scare. For the past year, live cannabis cup events have not been possible. However, High Times has molded its competition to include all of the community. This event has involved the community in the judging of the well-named People’s Choice Series. According to the director of competitions, Mark Kazinec, the new concept has been successful.

People are happy and they are excited to be able to enjoy the competitions while still being involved in the judging during these trying times.  Before COVID spread among us, the competition was judged by weed-friendly celebrities the likes of Snoop Dogg, Cheech and Chong, Willie Nelson, Rita Marley, and Seth Rogan, to name a few. Now, if you are of legal age, you can be a judge by purchasing a judging kit at any of the participating dispensaries.

Kits

The first order contains a variety of hemp-derived products. Among the first sold kits, there are twelve different types assembled for humans and one that is designed specifically for pet use.

Each kit will contain 27-29 items. Some of those items included:

  • Pre-rolls
  • Vape pens
  • Flower
  • Concentrates
  • Topical lotions
  • Pet products
  • Tinctures, sub-lingual and capsule

Final thoughts

Perhaps as devastating as the year 2020 has been to the world, it has also been a time of rebirth for many. The cannabis industry is no exception. Just as the language of cannabis has changed from COVID-19 (we no longer use the term puff-puff pass), we no longer have face-to-face events, but instead, we have converted the industry to include the virtual space. Virtual cannabis cup events offer an opportunity for cannabis cup winners to continue with the competition, only now it’s on a different platform.
