A lot of people know that THC is great for pain relief, but for those who’d prefer to avoid a dense feeling of euphoria, it’s not a viable option. CBD on the other hand, though less popular, is just as effective for certain types of pain relief.

CBD for pain

CBD works as an anti-inflammatory, which reduces swelling that is responsible for aches and pains in both temporary injuries and many chronic lifelong conditions. How much you will need depends on the person, but with determination and a bit of help, CBD should provide relief from pain.

Is CBD as effective as Tylenol?

Tylenol also helps to reduce swelling, just like many other NSAIDs, so if you’re treating inflammation, then yes, CBD has the potential to be the perfect Tylenol alternative or replacement. Unfortunately, we don’t have much data that compares the two treatments with one another, but there is plenty of scientific evidence to suggest that it’s quite effective as a replacement for opiates, so there’s no reason to assume it wouldn’t work equally as well in this case.

Why CBD is the safest pain reliever

Tylenol is used by millions of people all over the globe, and most assume that this OTC medication is entirely safe. Meanwhile, it comes with a long list of potential side effects, including:

  • Tiredness
  • Nausea
  • Anorexia
  • Vomiting
  • Excessive sweating
  • Abdominal pain
  • Increased heart rate
  • Low blood pressure

On top of this surprising list of side effects, it’s important to recognize that people can quite easily overdose on Tylenol, resulting in devastating consequences and, in some cases, even loss of life. CBD on the other hand though not perfect is impossible to overdose on, and it comes with a much shorter list of side effects, including:

The downside of using CBD as a Tylenol alternative

CBD might sound like the perfect Tylenol alternative, and for many, it could be, but the process of making this transition isn’t always so easy. This is because CBD takes time to build up in the body, which needs to happen to really see results, and that can take days, weeks, or even months. Though some see relief after a single dose of CBD, it’s more effective as a long-term treatment than it is for short-term relief.

Why it’s so important to talk to your doctor first

CBD is typically the safest pain reliever on the market today. However, that’s not necessarily true for everyone, in particular those who are currently taking prescription medications that may negatively interact with the cannabinoid. That is why it is so imperative to speak with your family doctor before using CBD as a Tylenol alternative.

It might be worth enlisting the help of a cannabis consultant

Some people have instant success using CBD to relieve pain, but most are not so lucky. For many, it can take days, weeks, months, or even longer to find an ideal dose and regimen that delivers the relief they need. This is generally due to a lack of knowledge on the subject, so if you want to improve your chances of success, then it might be worthwhile to hire a cannabis consultant who will take all of the guesswork out of this therapeutic treatment for you.
