Will CBD oil make it through airport security?

Do you have a form of CBD oil or hemp-derived medication that is approved by the FDA? If you are planning a vacation that involves flying, will the TSA airport security allow you to embark on the flight with your medicine? Recreational and medicinal cannabis is legal in many states, so can you bring your CBD vape oil or cannabis tincture with you? Well, let’s take a look.

The role of the TSA agent is to protect and to detect potential threats to passengers. The TSA does not search for your tinctures or your CBD vape oil. However, if they do discover any of these substances, they will invite the enforcement officer to join in the conversation you’re about to have. Currently, the testing for THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, is not conducted by TSA agents at airport security. The TSA agent, if they suspect an issue will contact the local law enforcement agency for assistance.

There is also the difference in airport enforcement policies from airport to airport. TSA officers do not search for cannabis products or your tincture, CBD vape oil, or for that matter, any illegal drugs. The TSA is intent on protecting the security and detecting potential threats. However, If the TSA believe that they have discovered cannabis-infused products, tinctures, or CBD vape oil, they must notify the law enforcement. This is required by federal law.

If the product is used for medicinal uses, it is still required by law to be reported to law enforcement. Airport security looks upon the regulation of cannabis-derived products as being under federal law. The federal law looks upon cannabis as illegal. However, CBD products perceived to contain less than 0.3% THC are legal to travel with. Today the rules for carrying CBD oil with you on a plane state that medical cannabis is permitted to be transported in your carry-on bag and also your checked baggage.

Requirements for your medicine to travel the airways legally with you

Medication or products that contain CBD are legal if they have been produced within the statutory regulations defined by the law, which operates under the Agriculture Improvement Act 2018. If you are planning to transport your CBD medicine through airports, be aware of the beautiful green line that you are treading on. The path you are choosing to walk with TSA is a fine line. One can only say, proceed with caution when travelling across the states with your legally prescribed medicine, as there is no way to know for sure what will happen.
