Most of us will battle with a skin issue at some point or another in our lives, and though each of us is impacted differently, the problem is a common one. Eczema is one condition that affects millions of people around the globe, and it doesn’t discriminate based on age, race, or background. Despite its irritating presence, doctors aren’t entirely sure what causes it, and treatments are often futile or provide short term solutions at best.

What is eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition that can present itself almost anywhere on the body, but it’s typically found on the hands, legs, back, and stomach. These are areas that are often rubbing on clothing, which is believed to make the situation worse.

Eczema looks like an angry, dry, red patch of skin that might be paired with small water blisters just beneath the skin, and it’s thought to be caused by a combination of genetics, chemical exposure, and rapid skin regeneration that moves so quickly that the exposed layer doesn’t have a chance to let go before another is formed.

Every person with eczema is affected differently, with some who see periods of inactivity where everything appears to be “normal,” and others who suffer from massive rashes that cover large portions of the body.

The severity might change on a case by case basis, but the symptoms remain the same which are dry, itchy, sore, and sometimes bleeding patches of skin that don’t seem to go away no matter what you do. That is why the most beneficial treatment for eczema is moisture and vitamins to keep the damage and discomfort to a minimum.

Hemp oil benefits for eczema

Hemp oil is an amazing all-natural liquid that comes directly from a hemp plant, and it’s always filled with a hearty dose of powerful healing cannabinoids like CBD, and that’s not all. Inside of the near-transparent fluid, you will find omega 3 acids, CBD, and other moisturizing oils that can help to loosen old and dead skin and keep new layers in good condition as you heal.

As the moisturizers do the easy work of maintaining a protective barrier over your eczema, the CBD goes to work on the inflammation, helps to speed up healing, and, while it’s at it, soothes painful sensations that might be coming from the affected region. It’s also antifungal and antibacterial, and that helps to keep any harmful germs at bay at a time when your natural protective barrier has a weak spot that’s open to invaders.

How to make CBD lotion for eczema

You may have noticed by now, that we keep going back and forth between the terms salve and lotion, and that’s because they are both, in essence, the exact same product. To some, this recipe might fit more into the lotion category, because it doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue that can further irritate eczema symptoms, but salve is more often associated with healing, which this CBD salve recipe certainly does quite well.

Makes: 1 ½ cups of CBD salve

Ingredients

  • 1 cup animal fat (a good option is bear grease)
  • 1-ounce beeswax
  • 1 tablespoon hemp oil

Tools

  • Sealable jar(s) (for storage)
  • Double broiler
  • Stirring tool

Instructions

  1. Put the animal fat in a double broiler and then wait for it to melt completely.

  2. Now add the beeswax to the mix, stir it together, and wait for the freshly added wax to melt.

  3. Measure and pour the hemp oil into the broiler, and then remove the liquid from the heat.

  4. Combine everything together for an even dose of CBD and a smooth textured result.

  5. Carefully separate the warm CBD lotion and put it into a sealable container for storage.

CBD infused products are no different than any other cannabinoid-infused concentrate, in that they need to be kept away from the light, and out of the heat in order to stick around. Exposure to either element will gradually break down the CBD, leaving you with a product that is nowhere near as effective as it was when it was freshly made.
