Whether you’re an avid birdwatcher, boater, or simply a lover of nature, chances are pretty good that you’ll end up in the bush at some point this summer. Cannabis enthusiasts are well known for their more intense appreciation for all things nature, and most would leave for such an adventure as well equipped as they know how to be, but there is no guide to camping as a stoner.

Many of us were taught from a young age how to set up tents, cast a line, start a fire, and how to pack in a way that prepares us for just about anything. After all, once you’re away from the safety that close by hospitals can offer, you’ve got to take care of yourself, but there are some ways that certain cannabis products and accessories can help to ease the burden too.

Though none of what we’re suggesting here today will offer you protection while you’re out wandering in the bush, these things can help you to avoid some of the biggest mistakes that stoners often make when they head out to the bush, which means that you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your time spent without stressing over the little things.

1. Pre-rolls

Most stoners won’t leave home without their precious rolling kit, which might be as simple as a bag of weed, a grinder, and a loose pack of papers, but this isn’t exactly ideal for when you get out into the bush. When you’re camping, there is nowhere to get out of the wind when it comes, and it is nearly impossible to keep your hands clean 100% of the time, which is why we highly recommended that you don’t leave home without several pre-rolls on hand.

If store-bought pre-rolls aren’t your style, then you can make your own by rolling several large cones or regular rolling papers into big fat joints that you can whip out and enjoy whenever you like. Though you might still want to travel with other choices on hand, there is nothing better than a pre-roll when you’re struggling against the elements of nature, so rest assured that you’ll be glad you brought some along.

2. A silicone piece

Most of us have at least one favourite bong or pipe that we are particularly attached to, be it out of aesthetics, price point, or a long positive history of use, but a great number of glass pieces have been sacrificed while their owners were in pursuit of some nature, as there is really no way to pack and travel with them safely without risking some kind of bumps, drops and possible breaks along the way. It’s a pain that many cannabis users have experienced, but it’s one that can be avoided with the ideal tool.

Silicone bongs and pipes get a bad rap, and that is mainly because they look exactly like plastic, and we all know that plastic can emit harmful toxins and chemicals when it’s heated at too high of a temperature. Luckily, this is not the case with silicone pieces which can withstand massive amounts of heat and still stay cool and in shape, in addition, they can bend, fold, get bumped around, and they’ll bounce right back every single time. So, if you want to avoid glass in your bag, then this is a great way to do it.

3. Edibles

You have to pack the essentials when you’re heading out, which means all of the good stuff that will provide you with the energy and calories that you’ll need to keep up with a much more physical way of life than you might normally be used to. It’s a big responsibility that will have you making lists of proteins, vitamins, and snacks that you might crave along the way so that you aren’t tempted to leave your outdoor oasis to satisfy a craving, but none of these things will keep you lit while you do it.

Of course, you can always opt to stick to plain old joints or bowls, but once you’re in the bush, time sort of stands still. There are no big responsibilities, no bosses calling you in, hoping you’ll cover a shift, and very little that you actually have to do, so why not indulge in some edibles while you’re away? Whip up a batch of cookies, weed brownies, or cheesecake, as they all hold up without a freezer for storage, and get truly elevated while you're in the great outdoors with some cannabis-infused goodies.

4. A rolling tray

Even if you do think that you’ve planned entirely ahead by packing so many pre-rolls that you aren’t even sure if you can smoke them all in one trip, it’s still a good idea to pack a good quality rolling tray as it can help to keep everything contained and from rolling away in an outdoor environment. Remember, that there will be wind, and there could also be sudden rain, which is when you’ll be incredibly happy to have everything gathered in one space so that you can grab it fast and pack it away.

The thing is, not just any rolling tray will do, as we’re talking about strong and oftentimes fierce weather possibilities, and all of them could lead to disaster if your stash doesn’t stay neatly contained. So, you’ll need something large that can rest comfortably on your lap, and one that has high lips to hold everything in with ease, and if you can find one, a design with a cove is ideal for keeping everything neatly tucked safely away.

5. Waterproof storage bag

When you’re used to spending most of your time indoors, it’s easy to forget that there is a whole lot of moisture outdoors that we normally don’t have to deal with, and that can be problematic for your stash which needs to stay dry in order to be useable. All it takes is one wrong move like forgetting your bag on the ground as the sun sets and the dew sets in, or a freak rainstorm that sends you flying to save your clothing while forgetting about luxuries like your weed until it’s too late.

That is why we highly recommend that all stoners who want to avoid this issue invest in a high-quality weed storage bag that will keep everything well protected. Some are merely resistant to water, which means that it will take a whole lot of it for a single to drop to make it past the protective barrier, but the absolute best choices on the market will even float and keep everything bone dry, even if it’s accidentally knocked into the water or a puddle.

No one wants their next great outdoor adventure to be squandered due to a loss of the one thing that helps to keep you at ease, so plan ahead, do the best you can do to be prepared, and make sure to pack one of everything on this list if you want to avoid some of the most common stoner mistakes that are made while camping.
