April 20th is a day that cannabis enthusiasts look forward to year after year. If you want to make the most of this holiday it helps to have some basic guidelines as there will be no shortage of great opportunities and potential hazards out there. In this article, we’ll talk about some of the most important things you should remember if your goal is to have the best, safest, and most enjoyable day possible.

1. Be aware of the law

Cannabis laws are different everywhere you look so it’s important to know what the rules are in your region and in areas you’re visiting. This way you can follow the rules and stay out of trouble, and it’s not difficult to do. All you have to do is Google search specifics such as how much you can buy or possess and where you can expect to indulge without issue.

2. Plan ahead

It’s easy to overlook the importance of planning ahead when it comes to 420 events since for the longest time, this date was mainly a day used to protest prohibition and many seasoned enthusiasts chose not to participate in those endeavors, but it’s an important thing to do. Whether you need snacks, drinks, strains to complement your chosen activities, or booked tickets for an event you want to attend, getting things ready before the big date is a great first step toward making the most of this holiday and avoiding any last-minute stress.

3. Know your limits

Everyone has unique needs when it comes to cannabis and it’s critical to know your limits if you want to keep from taking too much during this year's 420 celebrations. Beginners should always start low and proceed with utmost caution. At the same time, more seasoned enthusiasts may want to stock up on high-THC offerings to be fully prepared.

4. Stay hydrated

Cottonmouth is a common side effect that many consumers experience after using cannabis, so it’s a good idea to keep yourself hydrated throughout your 420 celebrations. For that reason, we recommend preparing to tackle this discomfort by keeping water, juice, and other delicious options ready and accessible.

5. Be respectful

All cannabis lovers want to celebrate 420 in their own way, and no matter what that entails for you it’s essential to be aware and respectful of others who might not share your passion for the plant. Luckily, that’s as easy as keeping consumption away from children, non-smokers, and any non-believers who don’t have faith in the power of cannabinoids.

6. Avoid driving

Far too many cannabis users develop the confidence to drive while under the influence and that’s illegal no matter where you might be. So if you’re planning on celebrating 420 away from home, be sure you have a safe ride back at the end of the night which could be a designated driver, close friend, taxi, or public transportation (ie. bus or train)

7. Take breaks

It may be tempting to go as hard and long as you can especially if you want to take the most advantage of all 420 has to offer. Still, it’s important to take breaks if you want to last throughout the day and night. Whether it’s simply a pause in your consumption for long enough to focus on the magic that’s happening in front of you, a short break that’s to grab a drink and a bite to eat, or time that’s set aside to actually go outside where there’s a hearty dose of fresh air waiting for you. Taking a break can help prevent overindulging, and it’ll give you the time you need to relax and recharge.

8. Don't share equipment

It’s a long-held tradition to share cannabis and most enthusiasts are excited for the opportunity to indulge in their favorite thing with strangers for 420 since it helps to start conversations and build bonds but this isn’t exactly a great idea, especially with COVID so close in the rearview mirror. Instead, you might want to make sure that each person has their own equipment or joint so that you can come home and return to everyday life feeling as good as possible.

9. Be mindful of edibles

Inexperienced cannabis users may not realize the vast difference between smoking, vaping, or dabbing and edible products which leads to far too much overindulging resulting in bad experiences that can last for several hours. That’s why it’s best to start with a small amount, and it’s a good idea to wait for 2 or more hours before deciding whether or not you want to take more.

10. Have fun!

This day was once filled with anguish, anger, and public displays of disappointment in governments, and that’s why we feel it’s so important to go all out and have as much fun as possible now that we have the freedom to do so. For decades we fought to make a change and now we get to reap the benefits of all that hard work. So don’t forget to take breaks, stay hydrated, eat to your heart's content, and have a great time on 420.
