Growing marijuana is part of an ancient art form, and though some find it easy to do, it is extremely hard to master. The use of molasses in the cultivation of cannabis is often an overlooked supplement that when correctly used, will strengthen and boost the very foundation of your marijuana grow.

The benefits of molasses for marijuana plants

Molasses is rich in nutrients and is a perfect additive to enhance your marijuana plants. Molasses adds sugars to the plant and will help it to bud. Like us, plants need salts, nutrients, and sugars daily. Feeding your plants molasses, what could be considered the equivalent to our eating junk food sugars, will pack on the weight to your marijuana buds.

How it works

Organisms in the soil eat the sugary dense molasses and then release it into the earth for your plant to absorb while multiplying the beneficial microorganisms in the soil. Adding molasses to your soil helps to improve the helpful organisms already present in the soil, which can help your plant to achieve better moisture retention and a more solid soil structure. It is benefits your plants' efficiency and overall health which can lead to a more substantial yield.

Molasses is also a great for helping to ward off unwanted and harmful pests and fungi. The growth of weeds will also be significantly reduced with this addition to your plants feeding regime, which can help to prevent too much salt from building up in the soil.

Use organic molasses

Make sure that the molasses you are going to use is organic. The commercially discussed molasses that growers use most is Blackstrap. This type of molasses is rich in vitamin B,  Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and Iron. You only need to add water to the molasses before using it to water your plants once or twice a week. It is, however, important to note that you should stop using the molasses water mix two or three weeks before you harvest your plants.

Formula:

  1. Add two tablespoons of organic molasses for every five litres of lukewarm spring water.

  • Take note to purchase unsulphured molasses as it is the best for the natural microbes in the soil. Sulphured anything is extremely toxic and should be avoided at all costs.

  • How to use molasses to increase bud density

    1. Start feeding your plants with a lower dose of molasses to begin, 5ml of molasses to one litre of water.

    2. When your plants start flowering, you can slowly increase the dosage.

    3. The flowering stage of growing marijuana is when your plants need the extra potassium, so this stage is when molasses are most beneficial. Molasses can added throughout all the growing stages, but avid growers have noted that the plant seems to benefit the most when molasses is used in the flowering stage and the least during the final month of life.

    4. Growers seem to agree that the overall health of the soil your plants grow in will affect your marijuana. Your marijuana plants need the addition of macronutrients and micronutrients to help ensure a bountiful crop.

Molasses produces the perfect balance for the required nutrients your marijuana plants need, so don’t be afraid to sweeten your water and your harvest will larger, denser and more enjoyable for it.
