This is not an uncommon problem, but it can be a hassle when you’ve got things to do. Even those who are new to cannabis know that it has the ability to put even the most hardcore tokers down for the count, but if you want to avoid falling asleep, there are ways to do that. Napping in the middle of the day can be a great thing, it can also be a serious pain in the butt when you’ve got responsibilities to tend to. If you lavish in the benefits of a buzz with the exception of the way it makes you doze off, then you might want to check out these handy tips and tricks that will help to keep your mind elevated while staying awake and alert.

1. Don’t overdo it

Getting high can be a wonderful feeling, but if you find that every time you do it, you’re falling asleep, then you might want to cut down on your intake. Even the most motivating, invigorating, and energetic cannabis strains will put you to sleep if you take too much of them, so keep it low and go slow to stay on the safe side.

2. Choose the right products

With so many myths surrounding cannabis, it’s really no wonder that so many consumers choose products that aren’t ideal for them, and one of the biggest culprits is this idea that Indica strains are somehow more potent and sedating, while Sativas are apparently the perfect solution for energetic souls who want to keep moving. The truth is that some Indica is great for daytime use, and some Sativas are perfect for sleep. It’s not these labels that are important, it’s the elements within.

If you want to stay awake, then a low THC, high CBD strain might be better suited for the job, and picking terpenes that contain the power to energize isn’t a bad idea either. Another way to choose the best strains is by browsing through other user experiences, information that can be found online, through forums, and by asking friends. Picking blindly based on THC content or the elusive Indica name is never going to turn out well for you if you want to stay awake.

3. Eat healthily and stay hydrated

You can pick all the right strains or products and take them in the perfect amounts, but if you’re not taking care of yourself, you will feel tired, which will make it so you’re more likely to end up falling asleep instead of just getting high. To avoid this, you’ll want to eat healthy and filling meals and snacks, and while you’re at it, don’t forget to stay hydrated because both will perk you up, making it easier to stay awake and enjoy a buzz.

4. Experiment with different methods of use

How you use cannabis is going to have a massive impact on how it affects you, and no two people are the same. Some have great success with taking low-dose edibles all day long for motivation, while others will pass out after eating a meager 5mg. The majority agree that the effects of smoking are much more manageable and short-lived, but this entirely depends on you, so if you aren’t having much luck with your current mode of delivery, then you might want to check out something new.

5. Stay engaged and moving

Even without a buzz, if you’re sitting on your butt somewhere comfortable in a calming environment, it’s probably not too hard for you to doze off for a few minutes. The same is true after getting high. Only, of course, the powerful elements take hold making sleep much more likely. If you want to stay awake, alert, and energized while using cannabis, then you’re going to need to keep both the mind and body engaged. Do a fun word puzzle or go for a jog around the block. Catch up on household chores or read a great book. Whatever you do, avoid the droning on of the television and the allure of ultra-comfortable furniture, and you’ll be good to go.
