Benefits of hemp oil for pets and livestock

Giving hemp oil or hemp seeds to your animals, whether they be pets or livestock is a good idea. Hemp seeds are high in fiber rand aid an animal’s digestive system. Studies have indicated that cows that were fed hemp seeds produced up to four liters more of milk per day than the cows that were fed traditional feeds.

When hemp is fed to your pet the condition of their teeth, coats, joints and teeth are visibly improved. Hemp provides high-quality essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants.

A common use of hemp for animals is in the production of bird feed. Birds love hemp seed for the nutrition they provide.

No matter how many hemp seeds you give to your animals, domestic or not, they will not experience “high” feelings. There is no THC contained in hemp seeds unlike the active substance in marijuana that makes you feel high.

A few words of caution when initiating the use of hemp to your dogs’ diet.  Hemp seed oil is polyunsaturated fat; the oil is unstable. If you cook your dog’s food,do not add it to the food while cooking. The oil can become rancid which may cause health issues for your pet.

If your pets’ diet is poultry, there is little need to add hemp seeds to their diet. Poultry is high in polyunsaturated fats, and hemp addition to the food could prove to be an imbalance in their food. There is no problem if your dog’s diet is beef, the addition of hemp is a great way to balance your pets’ diet. Hemp is considered a super food whether it be for yourself or your pet.

Hemp dog treats

Ingredients

• Three cups of oat flour
• one cup of unsweetened applesauce
• 2/3 cup of hemp seeds
• ½ cup organic coconut

Instructions
• Mix all ingredients in a glass bowl
• Knead the mixture a few times with your hands
• Form a dough ball and place in the fridge for ½ hour
• Roll out dough to ¼ inch thick
• Cut dough into cute shapes
• Place on baking sheet
• Bake at 350 degrees for 40 mins or hardened

This is a healthy form of treats for your dog. The addition of the hemp plant is a big bonus to keep your pet healthy.
