CBD oil works wonders on an impressive number of conditions in humans, but a lot of people are unsure of how useful it can be for their pets. There are so many myths circulating, surrounding both CBD and THC, but the talk that you’ve heard about CBD oil being helpful for medicinal purposes is true. The best part about CBD is that unlike THC, it is completely safe for mammals to consume, and it’s an effective therapeutic agent for them just as much as it is for us.

How does CBD oil for dogs work?

So far it appears that most mammal’s endocannabinoid system is equipped. The endocannabinoid system is a complex network of neurons and receptors that send signals to the brain to control the release of chemicals and hormones that regulate things like pain relief, hunger, mood and anxiety. The CBD interacts with this system, in the same way, that our bodies natural proteins do, which stimulates the receptors and results in a positive, uplifting and system regulating benefits.

How to use CBD oil for anxiety in pets

How you choose to approach treatment using CBD oil should depend on the frequency and severity of the symptoms you want to soothe or prevent altogether. If your dog or cat cries when you leave the house, then you might need to consider a dosing schedule that follows your daily routine. Something that is given at least one hour prior to leaving, which allows the powerful CBD oil to take effect.

For those with pets that have anxiety all the time, a much more frequent dosage might be necessary, which can range anywhere from 2-3 separate treatments per day.  CBD oil can be fed raw and whole, but pets often prefer a more appetizing flavor, which is why offering doses of the oil baked into treats, or sprinkled across their favorite food or treat, is most recommended.

Using CBD oil for pain

The other amazing benefit of CBD oil is in its powerful influence on inflammation and reducing it, which makes it an excellent short and long term treatment option for conditions that cause pain. A small dose of CBD, immediately after an injury or sudden problem, can be an effective pain relief at the moment, but it can also be used as a daily supplement to avoid or reduce the severity of any future age-related medical conditions like arthritis.

Things to remember

  1. Always use only pure CBD oil on pets, as THC is toxic.

  2. When you first start with dosing CBD oil, it is important to remember to start with the lowest amount possible. 5mg is a perfect starting point when working with your average pet.

  3. Once you’ve settled on the amount you will be using, it is best to stick with it even if you don’t notice the results that you are hoping for immediately.

  4. Always wait at least one full week before increasing dose.

  5. When it is time to increase dosing, it is best to do so in small increments of 5mg or 10 mg per week at most.

  6. It is highly recommended that anyone using a CBD oil as a treatment for anxiety in their pets, does so under the guidance and supervision of a licensed veterinarian. That is especially true if your animal is aged or on any other life-saving medications that might adversely react with CBD oil.

  7. CBD is the only element of hemp and cannabis plants that we know of that builds up in the system and stays around for ages. That is a part of what makes it such n intriguing medicine, as the dosing, once functional and working, can over time be reduced because of the CBD that remains in the body enhances the results of every daily treatment in a way that compares to no other medicine known to science today.
