A Maine Brewer has created a cannabis-infused beer that tastes and looks almost like the real thing, only its effects are provided by THC. The new kind of Pumpkinhead lager is produced by Shipyard, but its creation is the result of an agreement between Innovative Liquid Solutions and Novel Beverage company. The marijuana drink is making waves with consumers, who prefer the buzz from cannabis, but also have an appreciation for the flavor and experience of a brewed lager.

So, what is it?

The marijuana drink is officially called THC Elixir. There is absolutely no alcohol in this beer, but each one will come perfectly packed with a mild 5mg dose of THC for a lighter, easy to control experience. THC Elixir is made using all of the same ingredients as a regular lager, a process that’s been under development for quite some time, and the end result is something that both beer lovers and cannabis enthusiasts can agree on, a nano-emulsified drink that offers the perfect delivery vessel to the endocannabinoid system with a smooth, familiar taste.

How much does it cost?

Though the exact price per bottle may depend on location, right now, they’re selling for approximately $7 per drink in Maine. There are no discounts for multiples and few locations to choose from, which makes shopping around for the best deal hard, but even with a higher price tag than your average beer, they seem to be flying off shelves everywhere that sells them.

Where to buy it

The new Pumpkinhead THC Elixir is only available by visiting 1 of 8 cannabis store locations that are scattered across Maine, with the most popular being the Brothers Cannabis, and the CEO there has nothing but great things to say about the hot new beverage option.

The effects

The effects of the THC Elixir are described as a combination between edibles and regular good old-fashioned smoking thanks to the nanoemulsion technology, which infused the beer in a way that allows it to take hold faster, with sensations that linger. So, while the marijuana drink might not contain a super potent hit of cannabinoids, users are cautioned to enjoy it with care, as it can take upwards of 2 hours before the effects start to wear off.

Are there others out there just like it?

Pumpkinhead offers a unique brew that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, with flavors that go far beyond your typical beer. So no, there is no other out there that’s exactly the same, which is unfortunate for anyone who lives outside of Maine. However, there are a few other cannabis-infused drinks and lagers that have hit the market over this last year, a trend that is likely to grow as demand for these kinds of pot products increases.

The perks of choosing THC beer over smoking

Smoking might be the most popular way to consume cannabis and its derivatives, but it’s not the healthiest option out there, and the effects from this method are fleeting, lasting an average of only 30 minutes. With THC Elixir and other drinks out there just like it, consumers can enjoy all of the benefits of cannabinoids for an extended period of time, without risk of lung inflammation, an unfortunate possibility when one inhales anything other than crisp, clean air.
