If you have the luxury of viewing all cannabis products as a perfectly reasonable choice with few to no repercussions assuming they’re consumed responsibly, then consider yourself lucky. There’s a whole lot wrong with legalization as we know and experience it today, but there are still millions of people, some of whom reside in legal countries, searching for “how to pass a drug test?” because, for some reason or another, they must be concerned about whether or not traces of THC may be found in a drug test.

For them, smoking, vaping, and edibles are entirely out of the question, but there are some viable options out there. Topicals are often considered to be a safe bet. However, that’s not always the case, and it’s important to know the difference.

THC lube adds another layer of complication to the equation as it is often internally absorbed, but that doesn’t rule it out completely as a safe choice for those who need to pass a drug test. Still, there is more than one kind of THC-infused lube on the market, and if you’re concerned about the potential for THC to make it into the bloodstream, you'll need to find the right one for the job.

The trick is finding THC lube that doesn’t contain high amounts of THC in combination with skin penetration enhancers. The problem is that both are typically displayed side by side on dispensary shelves.

Topical THC lube

According to a 2005 review published in the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, topical THC lube should fall in line with almost every other topically applied product on the market today (i.e., muscle creams, ointments) because without enhancers that allow some of the active ingredients to be absorbed through the skin, the THC cannot get through the skin, and into the bloodstream. The confusion comes from the fact that most believe that all THC lube is topical since, technically, it is applied to the skin when that simply isn’t the case.

Transdermal THC lube

Transdermal THC-infused lube is a whole different ball game as it’s equipped with one or more skin penetration enhancers that allow cannabinoids to break through the protective barrier that is the skin. These products are so good that, in many cases, a consumer might even get high from using them. So if you’re one of the many people that need to avoid a failing drug test, then steer clear of all THC lube, including terms or ingredients such as nanotechnology or skin penetration enhancers.

When in doubt, Google is an excellent resource that can help you to determine if better-disguised additions might be cause for concern.

What about CBD lube?

Since drug tests look for traces of proteins left behind by THC, CBD lube is the safest choice for those who are worried about failing a test for cannabis. There are many of these incredible products on the market today, and though they won’t get you or your partner high, they can provide many of the same benefits without any of the risk.
