If you’ve had the pleasure of partaking in cannabis products more than once, then chances are pretty good that you’ve noticed a difference in how some weed strains affect you. This is not something that you somehow misinterpreted, and despite what you might think, it doesn’t always come down to THC content. The way that different weed strains impact consumers is due to the unique concoction of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other powerful elements that are naturally produced by the cannabis plant.

Since everybody feels differently after smoking a joint or enjoying an edible, it can be difficult to determine just how well any one type might work for you, but there are certain characteristics that seem to stay consistent from one strain to the next, and one of those is where the intense sensations are typically felt most. This particular effect doesn’t have a scientific name but instead goes by terms such as head high, cerebral high, body buzz, or some other variation of all of the above.

What is a head buzz?

A cerebral based high AKA head buzz is one of the most intense reported sensations by cannabis consumers. It describes one of the ways that cannabis can impact you, and this one is based within your head, or at least, it really feels like that’s where it is. As you might have guessed, a body buzz is when you feel tingly all over from head to toe, but you’re left with a clear mind, but a head high is a little bit different.

With a head buzz, you might still feel a slight case of the tingles, but the biggest thing you will notice is that your mind will start to wander. This makes it really easy to immerse yourself in a good movie or book, and it’s also great for reducing anxiety, improving mood, and sedating, but it can get in the way of your plans for the day if you aren’t careful.

Indica vs Sativa

A lot of consumers believe the myth that Sativa strains are best for a body buzz, and that Indica offer cerebral based sensations that are more suitable for an experienced cannabis user, but the truth is that there is no way to tell the effects that might come from weed strains based on this label alone. Some Indicas are excellent for motivation, and a body buzz and some Sativa strains provide the more intense head buzz. These terms are useful mainly to growers as they describe how they grow and not how they might make you feel.

Times when a cerebral based high might not be ideal

Though most seasoned connoisseurs enjoy a good head buzz, there is a time and a place for everything, and there are some situations where you might not want this effect, as it could interrupt things like your motivation, focus, and reaction time. So, unless you want to be daydreaming at work, or while you’re doing anything else important, it might be best to use the weed strains that are listed below when you have nothing to do.
