We know that cannabis can help to soothe the symptoms of a multitude of medical conditions and symptoms, and in some cases, it can even cure what ails us if it’s used correctly, but it’s not a one-stop solution for every illness known to man. However, with that said, there are some relatively undiscussed ideas out there for treating rarer conditions, and one of them is Lyme disease.

What is Lyme disease?

Lime disease is typically transmitted through tick bites thanks to a bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transferred into the bloodstream of the tick’s unsuspecting victims. Though it is important to note that not all ticks carry this disease, they are the primary carriers because they inject a small amount of the bacteria with other toxins when they bite a host.

Can cannabis work as a preventative for Lyme disease?

Though there is plenty of evidence to suggest that smoke, in general, tends to scare away irritating pests such as ticks, there is absolutely none that shows how cannabis could be useful in any meaningful way as a preventative for Lyme disease.

Can cannabis cure Lyme disease?

It would be fantastic if cannabis could in some way completely cure Lyme disease, but at this point in time, there is no reason to assume that the plant produces any miracle healing properties that reach quite to this extent. Right now, the only known treatment that can completely cure Lyme disease is a lengthy prescription for antibiotics that lasts for between 2 and 4 weeks, and for it to work, the illness needs to be detected in a reasonable amount of time before it progresses too far.

The symptoms of Lyme disease

The Lyme disease rash is the most notorious early indicator of its presence, as it presents itself in a bullseye pattern with bright red rings, making it relatively easy to spot, but the symptoms can last for up to 6 months after a full course of treatment is complete, and they include fever, chills, confusion, headaches, swollen lymph nodes, and aches and pains in the muscles or joints.

How to treat Lyme disease symptoms with cannabis

So, cannabis can’t prevent Lyme disease, and it certainly isn’t able to cure it at least as far as modern science can tell, but it can be incredibly helpful for treating the symptoms of Lyme disease. Cannabis is filled with powerful cannabinoids that can do things like reducing swelling while the medication is working, take down inflammation that may occur in other areas of the body that’s causing pain, and the powerfully sedating effects of THC can help to instantly reduce aches and pains while your body heals.

Can cannabis help to treat Lyme disease in dogs?

To answer this question, the answer is yes, though they can’t use it in quite the same way as we do. We as humans can smoke it, vape it, eat it, and really just enjoy cannabis in anyways that we please, but our furry friends’ bodies can’t handle the toxicity of THC, so only CBD products should be used in their treatment. You can sprinkle a bit of oil onto their food, add a small amount to their water, or rub it directly onto the affected areas for nearly instant relief from the symptoms of Lyme disease.
