The CCIC has the vision to be known as the most trusted resource for strictly evidence-based education on the health impacts of marijuana use. The concept also incorporates CCIC as being the national network hub, supplying ongoing cannabinoid and marijuana research.

Mission statement

The mission of promoting evidence-based research around the endocannabinoid system is the purpose of the Federally registered non-profit organization. The organization includes clinical research, health care professionals, and educators. The Canadian consortium for the investigation of cannabis promotes the study and evidence-based education concerning the endocannabinoid system and the potential harms associated with cannabis use. CCIC looks into the impact of non-medical cannabis on society, and the health of the cannabis user.

What is CCIC?

The Consolidation of Cannabis and Cannabinoid researchers in Canada was established as a  directory for abundant and diverse research. Studies of the CCIC involve cannabinoid and cannabis research in Canada.   Phytocannabinoids are included and are abundant in the marijuana plant. They resemble the endocannabinoid system in humans.  The CCIC  congress conducts research and education to look at both medical and non-medical use of the marijuana plant and its effects on users.

CCIC  is moving forward to educate the impact that recreational and medical cannabis has on disease and the health of society using cannabis. The legalization of recreational cannabis has promoted the CCIC to include both the recreational and non-medical research and education about the marijuana plant.

CBD vs THC

CBD vs THC is an ongoing active study that has occurred throughout Canada since legalization in 2018. The congress sees that, as a more urging need for evidence on the therapeutic uses of the marijuana plant.

CBD is currently being used and studied as a treatment for numerous health conditions, including:

Genetica
  • Anxiety
  • Neuroprotective
  • Pain relief
  • Anti-seizure
  • Cancer treatment

THC is helpful for more than the psychoactive traits. Here are a few other unique benefits that marijuana can offer.

  • Stimulates and grows brain cells
  • Anti-nausea
  • Pain relief
  • Sleep aid
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Reduces signs of aging
  • Removes stresses than can cause mental or physical issues

The congress identified that with the legalization of marijuana, there was a significant increase in the need for education surrounding the marijuana plant and its uses. The gaps in not knowing the basic biology of the marijuana plant were becoming more evident. Since then, Congress has looked into the health effects associated with both the medical and recreational use of cannabis.

Cannabis researchers at CCIC

Dr. Matthew Hill is the current Executive Director of CCIC; he is assuming the position from Dr. Mark Ware. Dr. Ware held the area for over a decade before passing the prestigious position down. Dr. Matthew Hill is moving forward to broaden the aspects of the CCIC. The fast-growing cannabinoid and cannabis network ensures that the CCIC will continue to exist and grow. To meet the demands of cannabis culture, the CCIC will continue to provide ongoing knowledge for the interested general public, and the medical community’s needs.

2018 proved to be a prominent year for Canadians and the world

The legalization of cannabis by the federal government of Canada set the continuing path for the CCIC to invoke its mandate of evidence-based education concerning medicinal and recreational effects from the marijuana plant.
