Apple recipes are amazing because they utilize one of the cheapest fruits out there, and the results are absolutely magical for the taste buds. Sure, a fresh and crisp apple goes down quite nicely on occasion, but there is nothing quite like the flavors that seem to emerge from this well-disguised fruit, once you add a little bit of sugar to the mix. These apple roses take that goodness one step further, by taking a plain old fruit and turning it into mini edible art.

What are they good for?

Apple roses make perfect individual servings that can be served with ease because they don’t stick together. They are also delicious warm or cold, plain, or with a dollop of creamy vanilla ice cream on the side, which means that you can make them well in advance of a big event, or freshly out of the oven for an extra special treat. Though they do look beautiful, you don’t have to be an expert chef to pull this one-off, and the results are so simple and esthetically pleasing that they’re fancy enough to serve for Mother’s Day, anniversaries, and even weddings.

Baked apple roses recipe

Apple roses are an incredibly sweet treat that highlights the tangy flavors of the fruit, with a gentle coating of cannabutter and sugar. The best part about this recipe is that you can make huge batches all at once, which makes it easy to feed a large crowd or gathering, and if you’ve got safe freezer baggies on hand, they refreeze well too, and that means perfectly divided sweet desserts that are ready to pop into the microwave with a moment’s notice.

Ingredients

  • 3 tubes of puff pastry
  • 3 large red apples (thinly sliced)
  • 3 eggs
  • ¾ cups cannabutter
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 6 teaspoons water
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons icing sugar

Tools

  • Plate
  • 8x9 deep baking dish
  • 3 Bowls
  • Whisk
  • Sauce brush

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.

  2. Arrange the apple slices into a pattern that overlaps like flower petals in a circle on a plate, and once you’re satisfied with the way that your apple roses look, then you can toss it into the microwave for 45 seconds on high to soften the fruit.

  3. Roll out the puff pastry slabs so that they are no thicker than 1/8 of an inch.

  • Use a knife to cut the dough into 9 12-inch triangles, and make sure to save the trimmings for a bit later on.

  • Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, as you melt the cannabutter down to a liquid in a small bowl in 30-second increments in the microwave.

  • Sprinkle generous amounts of the sugar mixture over the pastry and then use the butter as a bath that just sort of runs everything together.

  • Place one bunch of apple slices along a strip of dough, spreading them evenly across it.

  • Pull the bottom portion of the dough strips up over the bottom of the apples to hold them into place, which should have most of the tips sticking out way past the dough where it is angled.

  • Repeat steps 7 and 8 until all of your apple roses are put together.

  • Next, grab the narrowest part of one of the strips and start to wrap it around itself tightly. This is where you will truly see the flower form, and if it helps, you can gently open up the petals with your fingertips before placing it into the baking pan.

  • Now do the rest of the apple roses, and then line them up evenly in the baking dish.

  • Use a whisk to combine the egg and the water into a frothy solution, and then using a brush to apply it to all of the exposed parts of your apple roses.

  • Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar on the apple roses right before you bake them for approximately 45 minutes, or until the tops are a golden color.

  • How many apple roses per person?

These apple roses are so good that you won’t even be able to tell that they’re so potently infused with cannabutter, but it’s still a good idea to start with one serving if it’s your very first experience with them. Some cannabis enthusiasts might crave more, but if you slowly increase your intake, then you can avoid the possibility of any adverse experience, from indulging.
