Coming up with unique Valentine’s Day ideas can be difficult, especially if your special someone is hard to buy for, but that’s the beauty of homemade options. No one wants another useless trinket, so why not give a dish that is made with love instead.

This cannabutter jam tart recipe is super easy to make, holds up well in transit, and can be made several days in advance of the big special day, with a personalized touch using wholesome ingredients. The best part about this project is that when you are done, you will know how to make edibles of all kinds because it’s really as simple as substituting cannabutter or some other cannabis-infused fatty product in place of its non-infused alternative.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cannabutter
  • ¾ cup jam (any flavor)
  • 16 ready to bake tart cups
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Tools

  • Mini heart-shaped cookie cutters
  • Mini muffin tray
  • Mixing spoon
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin

Instructions

  1. Gently heat the cannabutter in the microwave in 30-second increments until it reaches room temperature. (Or alternatively, leave it out in a warm room the night before.) If heated in the microwave, make sure to do so in a separate dish from the one you plan to combine the rest of the ingredients in.

  2. Get a large mixing bowl ready and add the cannabutter and jam, then blend the two together with a spoon.

  • Now toss in the vanilla and crack an egg into the bowl then mix everything together as well as you can.

  • Drop 12 of the pre-made tart shells into a muffin tray. The rest you will need a bit later on, so leave them out and allow them to warm up.

  • Preheat the oven to 350° F.

  • Scoop an even portion of the cannabutter mixture into each of the tart shells until they are all completely full.

  • Now use a rolling pin to flatten out the remaining shells.

  • Once they are flat, work away at creating hearts of all different shapes and sizes or go the extra mile and carve out some letters to arrange into a message.

  • Stick the hearts onto the jam centers of the filled tart shells, then bake the dessert in the oven for 15-18 minutes or until they’ve reached a golden-brown color.

  • Safe dosing with cannabutter

Learning how to make edibles is only half of the battle, as it is just as important to practice some basic rules when experimenting with them. Unfortunately, it is incredibly different to figure out the precise THC content in each one, especially if you have used a homemade cannabutter that could be made using any strain, which is why the safest way is to stick to the ‘go low and slow’ rule. That means eating no more than one edible and giving it a few hours to gauge its effects before deciding whether or not to eat another.
