Hot hamburger gravy and steak is a versatile choice that can be served on nearly any starch bed, including potatoes, rice, pasta, buns, or bread. It’s cheap, filling, and if you want to liven things up a bit, a dash of onions here or a handful of sweet peppers there can make a huge difference without having to go too far outside what’s familiar. This classic makes the perfect dinner in a snap, and though it’s smothered in hamburger gravy, it’s pretty good for you too, in moderation, of course.

The point of infusion

Technically, you can infuse almost any part of this dish, but today we’re going to show you the fastest and easiest way to get the job done, which is through the gravy. Not only is the process simple but keeping the infusion to only one ingredient also provides a better level of control for each person where taste and potency are concerned.

Preparation time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Servings: 4

  • 1 package of instant gravy mix (enough to make 2 1/2 cups)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 medium cooking onion (diced)
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ¼ cup unseasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon cannabutter (or cannabis-infused vegetable oil)
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Skillet

  1. Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic, and egg in a large mixing bowl.

  2. In a smaller dish, whisk together the water and gravy mixture before setting it aside.

  3. Warm up the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium to high heat for 1 minute, and while you wait, shape that burger mixture into 4 even little patties.

  4. Once the skillet is hot, cook the hamburger steak for approximately 4 minutes per side or until it’s brown on the outside.

  5. Remove the hamburger steak servings from the skillet and replace them with the mushrooms and onions, which will need to be stirred on occasion while they’re sauteed over low heat for 6-7 minutes.

  6. Once the onions have softened and the mushrooms are cooked, it’s time to add the gravy mixture to the skillet, using a spatula to scrape free any stuck pieces which will help to prevent scalding and add flavor.

  7. Stir the gravy mixture frequently until it thickens, a process that takes anywhere from 8-10 minutes, and once it’s done toss in the cannabutter and then continue to mix the liquid until it is fully incorporated into the sauce.
The delicious gravy is ready to pour over those patties and they’re served!

Serving and storage tips & tricks

Hot hamburger gravy is a combination that is best when it’s served while it’s piping hot, so most consider long term storage to be less than ideal, however, if you freeze individual portions, ensure to cover all of the meat with a thick protective layer of gravy so it can be frozen for a fast and easy microwaveable dinner. That is as long as you have completely airtight storage containers to so.
