We all want to do the best we can for our furry friends, and though not everyone is willing to go so far as to celebrate their big milestones like birthdays, those who do need to know they’re offering something safe, healthy, and delicious for a super special treat. This birthday cake for dogs is 100% delicious, filled with only the more wholesome ingredients, with a small splash of CBD to give your pup the boost they need to get the most out of the day.

What’s in it?

It’s important to note that only pure CBD products should be used to infuse treats for dogs, as THC is toxic, and may cause long-lasting adverse effects which is the opposite of what you’re trying to achieve by doing something special for Fido on his or her birthday. Sweetened with honey, weighed down with protein-filled peanut butter, and topped with your pup's favourite treats to ensure they’re ecstatic to be presented with this masterpiece.

Why use CBD for pets?

CBD offers a plethora of benefits to humans, and dogs can take advantage of them too because they also have an endocannabinoid system.

Birthday cake recipe (for dogs)

With such gentle filling ingredients, this birthday cake recipe is perfect for all dogs including those with sensitive tummies. Serve it plain, or top it off with some extra creamy yogurt to make it look like there’s frosting. Alternatively, a spoonful of gravy or heavy cream can also go a long way in making this doggy dessert even more enticing. Switch it up, until you find something that makes both you and your pet feel good.

Servings: 4

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup carrots (shredded)
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon CBD-infused cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Fluted tube pan
  • Large bowl
  • Wooden spoon

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  2. Grease a tube pan.

  3. Blend the honey, oil, peanut butter, and vanilla together in a large mixing bowl.

  4. Stir the carrots into the mixture, until they’re thoroughly combined.

  5. In a separate bowl sift the flour and baking soda together, before slowly folding them into the wet ingredients.

  6. Once the cake batter is done, it’s time to pour it into your prepared pan. If it’s too thick, then it’s ok to add a little milk until it’s more of a batter-like consistency.

  7. Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. Leave the pan on a wire rack to cool for at least 30 minutes before icing and/or serving.

Storage tips and tricks

Do not ice this cake until it’s about to be served. Since this is such a small portion, larger breed dogs may be able to finish it all in one sitting, but that might not always be the case, and if you’ve got a smaller pup, then you’ll have to keep individual slices in storage instead. Keep the cake in an airtight container, in the fridge for up to 3 days. If you’re looking for longer shelf life, or own a large breed dog that you’d like to slow down while they inhale your hard work, then it’s also ok to keep these treats in the freezer. Just remember that smaller dogs will need it to be defrosted, otherwise, they might not be able to chew it up well enough to truly enjoy the snack.
