  2. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, puree, and pressed garlic.

  5. Add salt and pepper to taste, cover the pan with a lid, and let the sauce cook until the beef browns.

  6. Stir in the thyme, red pepper flakes, and nutmeg before covering the pan again

  7. Add basil.
