WeedMD, a well-known Canadian cannabis company, can now go ahead and produce, sell, package, and distribute its product from their 610,000 square foot cultivation and processing site in Strathroy, Ontario. Health Canada has waved the green flag. What does this mean for the federally-licensed producer and distributor of adult-use and medical marijuana?

The publicly traded parent company of WeedMD RX Inc. and Starseed Medicinal Inc., WeedMD, has now expanded its list of cannabis offerings that they will be providing. Under one simple online system, registered patients will be able to access:

  • Soft gel capsules
  • Dried flowers
  • Oils
  • Vaporization products

By October 2020, WeedMD will migrate its patients to the streamlined Starseed Medicinal marketplace. Once the patients have been merged, they will have full access to Mary's Medicinals, one of the company's product offerings that include topical gels and creams.

Dedication and commitment

Angelo Tsebelis, CEO WeedMD says that providing equal access to these products under a straightforward marketplace is vital to the integration, which demonstrates the commitment to medical roots.  Bringing cost advantages that ultimately get directed to patient services and product innovations is a positive outlook. Starseed and the online medical marketplace aim to deliver WeedMD quality cultivated and produced products to the valued consumer.

The revolutionary Canadian system built around a virtual pharmacy model is one of a kind proprietary technology. The technology is capable of uniting the medical channels under one simple to access  marketplace roof capable of accessing:

  • A robust network of healthcare professionals
  • A client care team who are available seven days a week
  • Direct billing to insurance providers
  • Same-day shipping

The products in the Starseed marketplace have product identification numbers, so that pharmacists, healthcare practitioners, and patients are able with this knowledge to acquire a greater understanding of how marijuana can be used to help. Recently WeedMD has launched an affiliation with CX Industries, an extraction hub that operates from the WeedMD  Aylmer, a  Southwestern Ontario facility. The fully licensed 26,000 square feet facility specializes in cannabis extraction and processing.

WeedMD has a multi-channelled distribution strategy that encompasses selling directly to registered medical cannabis patients. This is a strategic move that helps the business to enter the senior market. The action also includes the company's supply agreements with Shoppers Drug Mart and six other provincial distribution agencies where the WeedMD adult-use brand Color Cannabis is available for purchase.

Looking forward

Keith Merker, CEO of WeedMD, is pleased that the scalability of the production combined with the extraction capabilities of CX Industries provides the platform necessary to continue to be recognized across Canada as a trusted information source for medical cannabis. Merker further says that the company will be able to continue to deliver the results that stakeholders expect to see.

Final words

The company's ability to sell the growing portfolio of available cannabis products will speed up the path to profitability and help to execute the consolidation plans of obtaining operational efficiencies and speedier product fulfilment. The Canadian cannabis company is green and looks profitably at future endeavours.
