Why more than half of all cannabis consumers use it to sleep
According to a peer-reviewed survey which was published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, approximately 74% of cannabis users cite sleep as one of the biggest things that cannabinoids help them with, and that’s a really big deal in a world where more than half of us are struggling to get the quality of shut-eye that we truly need. It’s an amazing solution for millions of people, and there is more than one reason for that.
1. It’s affordable
A lot of consumers use THC or CBD for sleep because it’s a much more affordable alternative to prescriptions which can cost hundreds of dollars each and every month. Of course, weed isn’t free so getting rid of those sleepless nights will still come at a cost, but when the solution is only a few puffs from a joint, it’s really quite cost-effective.
2. Wake up feeling refreshed
Sleeping aids or alcohol can work to soothe you into a deep dark sleep, but those nights can be hard to wake from in the morning. They can leave you feeling groggy, sedated, off-balance, and in general no good shape to go anywhere which isn’t very helpful when you have to work in the morning. The effects of cannabis, on the other hand, are always gone by morning, leaving consumers to wake up feeling invigorated and refreshed.
3. It works
A lot of cannabis enthusiasts buy it purely for the assistance it can provide when they can’t sleep, but even those who don’t necessarily suffer in this department notice a significant increase in the quality of their sleep when they nod off under the influence of cannabinoids. It can help users to fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and it can make it so that the smallest of noises no longer wake you up, virtually everything you need for a great night's sleep.
4. It helps you to stay asleep, but not too deeply
Cannabis can help to break through the wall that insomnia builds helping you to fall asleep with ease, and it can make that time in dreamland more powerful by inducing a deeper level of sleep that can be a bit more challenging to wake from, but it’s not so much so that something like a screaming child or fire alarm could possibly be missed. While the plant can ensure that you slumber, it doesn’t excessively or dangerously sedate, and that’s a good thing for those who can’t afford to entirely clock out of reality.
5. It’s more easily accessible than prescription medications
If you want a prescription for sleep aids from your doctor, it’s a huge ordeal that means either finding a brand-new doctor, a luxury that so many of us go without, or booking an appointment with your current one which could take weeks. From there, the patient is forced to have an uncomfortable conversation that may or may not result in them leaving with a potential solution, and after all of that, they have to pay for it out of pocket too. So, if the medicine doesn’t work, they’re out hundreds and still sleepless. Meanwhile, cannabis is available through any dispensary, making it far easier and less stressful to try.
It might not be the solution for everyone, but one thing is clear and it’s that cannabis has the power to improve the quality of sleep for millions of consumers.
