The COVID-19 vaccine is on its way, with millions of people around the globe set to be vaccinated in the coming months, following healthcare professionals as well as the most vulnerable. It’s a hopeful time, as we’re finally getting to see the possibility of a light at the end of this incredibly long tunnel, but it is going to take a bit of convincing to get as many people as possible to line up and take the shot, which is why some businesses and organizations are stepping up to the plate, by offering an extra incentive.

The offer

A Michigan dispensary has announced that it will give free weed to any citizens who show up with proof that they’ve been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Greenhouse of Walled Lake, a recreational pot shop, is offering a “Pot for Shots” giveaway in hopes of motivating those who might still be on the fence about the vaccine, to take a leap and a jab in exchange for a pre-rolled joint.

Though the store has been clear through social media posts that freedom of choice should be respected, it also offers a really simple explanation for its decision, as organizers believe a thank you is in order for all those who do choose to step up and do their part to end this grip that the pandemic has held over America and the world.

About Greenhouse of Walled Lake

The dispensary which is located on Walled Lake Drive in Walled Lake Michigan, services both recreational and medicinal consumers, as it has since February 1st of last year and the location has quickly become a staple in the community. Here consumers can find anything they could possibly need from pot products to the devices necessary to use them, and as it's the first of its kind in the area, residents have been more than supportive of this incredible business.

A short supply

So far, more than 30 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have gone out across America, as the country reports a grim milestone of surpassing 400 000 deaths. Acceptance or a willingness to take the vaccine isn’t such a big concern right now, as there is a serious shortage of shots, and with two doses needed for immunity to the illness, it’s probably going to be a while before we run out of people who want to get vaccinated. Still, awareness is incredibly important for our future success, which is why Greenhouse of Walled Lake isn’t the only one to try something so unconventional.

Similar initiatives

If we want to eliminate the pandemic, or at least get to the point where we can function as normal without having to worry about the possibility of heading back into lockdown, then we need as many people as possible to get this shot. Though mixing weed with pharmaceuticals isn’t the usual way of doing things, Joints for Jabs is trying to use a similar tactic to get people to line up willingly for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Do we really need to bribe people to get the shot?

We might not necessarily need to bribe anyone, but it certainly can’t hurt, and if it improves vaccination rates, then it will have helped, which is why the idea is being praised as creative and inspirational, something that we’re all happy to be part of during these trying times.
