Should runners really be smoking weed?

With the long-running stereotype of lazy stoners, it doesn’t seem like it would make sense to mix cannabis with exercise of any kind, in particular the running variety, which requires endurance. It’s an unlikely pairing that is rarely discussed, but some experts and athletes swear that it’s an incredibly effective tool for at least a few different reasons.

The benefits of smoking cannabis and running

If we’ve managed to get your attention, then by this point you’re likely wondering how to smoke weed so that it is the most beneficial to your exercise regimen, and the truth is that it depends on you. Some consumers love to take a few big bong rips before a morning jog, a few likes to break along the way, and most prefer to indulge afterward, with each decision offering an entirely different type of effect.

Before

Smokers circling around a bong before a long run might not sound like an overly productive decision, after all, they’re going to be toking and coughing, likely needed a small break before being anywhere near ready to run. By that point, some consumers might have clear lungs, but their motivation is likely to have taken a dive. However, that’s not true for all runners.

Some runners like to get stoned before running because it helps them to lose their minds in the activity, which passes the time faster making it easy to endure longer journeys without taking a break. It can make the sun seem brighter, the birds sound happier, and the whole experience more enjoyable as you make your way from the beginning to the end of a good, hard run.

During

During a jog, the effects vary depending on whether or not you pause for a break partway to smoke some more. Still, most athletes report a consistent buzz as a helpful tool that allows them to push themselves past barriers that seem to be present without the assistance of cannabis. This is likely due to a decrease in pain and an overall relaxing sensation which can make it easier to push harder and faster than they normally would.

Afterward

WW

Running is a relatively tame kind of exercise, which is why any able-bodied person can do it, but it’s still a lot of work for the body, especially when you’re pushing yourself long distances or for better speeds, which can eventually lead to injuries like strained muscles, something that will continue to throb for several days.

Smoking cannabis after a run can help to alleviate much of that discomfort, as it immediately melts away the pain while quietly working to reduce inflammation where it hurts, which is why it’s the perfect way to wind down. It can also help you to make it through the following days when those injuries and pains flare up so that you can maintain your usual day-to-day responsibilities.

Healthier options

Smokers can certainly be successful runners, but the truth is that we know the hazards of inhaling clouds of anything, and it’s not good for those who want to stay physically fit. That’s why we highly recommend some of these healthier alternatives:

  • Vaping
  • Dabbing
  • Edibles
  • Distillate
  • Capsules
  • Tincture
