5 Ways to avoid fatigue caused by cannabis

Cannabis comes with a common side effect of sedation, which can leave you feeling tired and couch-locked, and that’s not a very good thing when you’ve got responsibilities to tend to or a strict schedule to keep. Whether you’re out having fun with a group of friends, or home alone with a long list of chores to tackle, the last thing you want is to be falling asleep. Luckily, we’ve got some tips and tricks that can help to ensure that this doesn’t happen to you.

1. Take smaller doses

A lot of the time, fatigue comes from using too much cannabis in a short period of time, and how much it takes varies greatly from person to person. Some consumers have no trouble throwing back 100mg of THC in edible form or several fat blunts before hitting the dance floor, or engaging in a stimulating conversation, while others would be wiped out by only a small fraction of that. That’s why it’s so important to recognize your tolerance limit and stay within it if you want to avoid falling asleep.

2. Keep on moving

In some cases, even small doses of cannabinoids can be problematic, and that’s often true when you’re not doing something to stay awake and alert. Watching a movie is one example of an experience that often puts people to sleep even without cannabis because it requires sitting in one place that’s generally quite comfortable, like the couch. Though many enjoy the effects of cannabis with a flick, for some, that relaxing feeling is only going to be intensified unless they’re moving. So, it’s a good idea to try to stay active when you’re high.

3. Use it later in the day

Many people find that cannabis at any enjoyable dose causes fatigue, and for them, it’s probably best to be more selective as to the time of day they choose to indulge. Those with a higher tolerance might thoroughly benefit from a good, old-fashioned wake and bake, but there’s nothing wrong with waiting until closer to bedtime if you know that’s where you’ll end up soon enough after the buzz kicks in. At the very least, late afternoon or evening is probably the best choice if you want to avoid the possibility of encountering this problem completely.

4. Choose strains/products suitable for the job

If you’ve got a really high tolerance and therefore need to consume more, and you’re constantly moving while still feeling exhausted, then it might be time to further investigate the strains you’re using. Some types of cannabis are well known for their magical ability to lull into a deep, dark slumber, whereas others are far more likely to invigorate, energize or even motivate those who use them. High levels of THC are generally blamed for this effect, but it can also be sedating terpenes, a lack of CBD or other uplifting micro cannabinoids that’s causing the problem.

5. Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet

Two of the biggest causes of chronic fatigue are a poor diet and lifestyle, so it’s important to get a handle on these things long before dabbling in cannabinoid-laden products of any sort. Because if you start out tired, then smoking or eating cannabis isn’t likely to help your situation. Make sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, eat foods that are good for you, and get a good solid 8 hours of sleep every single night if you want to stay awake and alert after getting high.
