What to do with kief

Kief: dry sift or pollen, the tiny sticky crystals that cover the cannabis bud. These resin glands contain the terpenes and cannabinoids that make the plant unique.

The kief or the crystal formations at the end of the gland are a part of the trichome, or what some call the little hairs on weed.

Trichomes are used for defense. When referring to their presence in marijuana, they are used to deter hungry herbivores from eating your plant. The strong odor from the plant attracts pollinating insects as well. This odor comes from terpenes. Terpenes are the molecules responsible for creating the aroma of weed found in oils coating marijuana plants. Kief can be your concentrate substitute, the high number of terpenes and cannabinoids will suit you fine, cheaper on the budget as well.

How to gather the kief

To gather your kief, I suggest buying a good three chamber grinder. This method will store your keif when grinding your bud. You can use the keif for an added bonus, like making your edibles or your hash.

Kief maybe more potent than the bud when used alone. It is, however, less potent than extracted concentrates.  Namely, shatter butter and waxes. Better the quality of the weed results in better quality kief.

The color of the kief is an indicator of the strength. You are looking to separate the kief from the plant matter. Another method to achieve this is to use various sizes of screens. Put your herb and a quarter in the box cover the box with the screens and start shaking.  This basic procedure can be repeated until you have enough kief.

You will need to store the kief in a cool, dry, dark place if you want to keep it for a while. The kief tends to stick together; I suggest you stir it every couple of days to prevent this from happening.

Kief tea

Try adding some kief to your morning java or tea. Choose the right strain for morning or night, and your bedtime drink could set you up for a restful night’s sleep and your morning java will keep you energized.

What to do with kief powder?

If you enjoy your morning bowl of weed with your java, try sprinkling a little keif on the top of your bowl before you light it up. Just an added booster to get you going in the morning. I have not tried it but seems to me it would be delicious sprinkled on top of the whipped cream on your hot chocolate just before bedtime or a skate in the frozen backyard. Unlimited ways to enjoy this bonus.

Other kief uses

Adding kief to your butter is a great way to boost your toast, spread it on and enjoy. To make this edible just add the kief to butter in a saucepan.  Stir every 15 minutes and continue this for 5 hours. Let it cool and put it in your best butter dish for when the company passes by.

Maybe you would like to use your kief to make some quick hash, by following these few steps you will have your hash.

Let the iron heat to lowest setting use the old-style iron no steam required
· Take the parchment paper that you have folded in half, make sure that you are not using wax paper, place your kief inside the paper and place on the ironing board
· Place a cloth over the paper
· Apply pressure with the iron for 4-5 seconds flipping the paper every few swipes of the iron. Check your progress, adjust the heat accordingly and, you will have your hash.

Can you vape Kief?

If you prefer to vape your marijuana your kief can be used the same way as you use your best weed.

So now that you have found an added bonus to your herb utilize it in the best way suitable for you, enjoy!
