Steps to saving the most money for cannabis consumers

With inflation on the rise, saving money is becoming a top priority for most people. Life is getting expensive and supplying a cannabis habit only adds to the heap of bills that keep streaming in, but there are ways to make it much more affordable. It’s important to remember that taking on all of these changes at once might not be possible. However, with slow incremental adjustments, it won’t take long or much effort at all to save a whole lot of cash.

Cut out the middleman

The biggest markups for cannabis enthusiasts come from the multiple middlemen that stand between them and the products they need, so why not skip that step completely? Buy directly from cultivators whenever possible, and from manufacturers when it comes time to replace a piece and make your own alternatives. Whether it’s concentrates, tinctures, topicals, or DIY bong cleaner and rolling trays, each time you take on this challenge, you’ll save money.

Grow your own cannabis

The largest expense for most consumers is the actual products, which can add up to hundreds of dollars each and every year. If you buy 1/4 each week, at $50 per quarter, which is under the national average price per gram, by the end of the year, you’ll have spent $2,600.00, and that’s not including delivery or the cost of gas and time spent going to get it.

With nothing more than a packet of seeds, some healthy soil, and a few lights at the cost of less than $100.00, you could eliminate this expense entirely, and once you’re all set up, the savings will be even bigger next year when you don’t have to start from scratch. Even without a green thumb, you can save at least a few dollars by supplementing your stash with a home grow.

Buy in bulk

Not everyone has the time, room, place, or ability to cultivate their own plants, but anyone can take advantage of the savings that come from buying products in bulk. Whether it’s flower, concentrate, tools or accessories, all can usually be bought at a fraction of the price if you’re willing to buy a lot. If it’s unaffordable alone, then share the savings with a friend or two so that everyone can go home happy and a few dollars richer.

Prioritize durability over aesthetics

This one is hard because it generally requires a significant investment, but long term it will save you money. A metal bowl for $40.00 will last for several years, while a $10.00 one that breaks, needs replacing every time you turn around which could add up to far more than that in less than a year. After doing the math, it’s not hard to see why it’s worth a small down payment in exchange for savings that add up later.

This way you’ll also be much less likely to ever be stuck without a working device or accessory, which is just another benefit to stack on top of those extra dollar bills.

Shop sales, signup for coupons, and take advantage of discounts

Yes, most states and provinces set pricing standards, but there are still savings to be had if you know where to look. You can save money by shopping sales that pop up most around the holidays and by signing up for coupons with producers and dispensaries. Many stores, including dispensaries and headshops, even offer discounts to certain groups such as students, the elderly, or medical patients, so be sure to inquire and take advantage of all your local steals.

Use all-natural cleaners

Store-bought bong cleaners work really well, but their effectiveness comes at the expense of your pocket and health. A single $20.00 cleaner could easily be replaced with $2.00 alcohol and a handful of salt, and the results are just as spectacular without the added risk of inhaling potentially dangerous chemicals. It’s a win-win situation that will save money.

Find prescription coverage

Even medical patients don’t always have the luxury of completely free weed, but if you’ve got a prescription and are willing to shop around, there are now several private health insurance companies that do offer this benefit. Some of them will even supply recipients with a brand new, high-quality device on a yearly basis, so there’s even more room for saving money here than you might think. The search may be difficult, but if you find one, then your bank account will be very happy that you did.
