Should I get a medical marijuana prescription from the government?

What is medical marijuana? Medical marijuana is a plant used to treat medical conditions and symptoms.

How to qualify for medical marijuana

The law in Canada for anyone requiring the use of medical marijuana is the same in all provinces and territories across Canada. Each province requires a patient’s medical information to be approved by ACMPR and Health Canada.

The decision to use marijuana for medical reason is the sole responsibility of the patient and the health provider. The patient considering the use of medical marijuana should consult with their family health provider. If your family health provider is not educated in medical marijuana, he or she can refer you to a licensed health providerwho is. Medical marijuana is prescribed by a licensed health provider, so the more that the health provider is educated about medical marijuana, the better. Your medical conditions and symptoms that marijuana use can benefit from will be discussed, andthe decision will be made to apply for your license. At this time the required dose for your medical condition will also be discussed.

The ACMPR is administered by Health Canada, and it has two main roles: Licensing and monitoring the commercial industry, registering individuals to produce a limited amount for their personal medical use.  Production and sales of medical marijuana are regulated by the Federal government.
