Places to avoid when smoking and alternative methods of consumption
Places to avoid while smoking marijuana
Here is a good list of sites and spaces that you shouldn’t spark up a joint in or near:
• Public sporting facilities
• Doorways to businesses
• Family-oriented festivals/events
Reasons these places should be avoided
1. The smell
Even if you love the smell of smoking marijuana, not everyone is going to feel the same way. Unfortunately, cannabis often comes accompanied by a pungent scent that can be difficult to ignore.
2. Minors may be present
Though it is true that once the smoke has been inhaled, the majority of the cannabinoids are immediately absorbed. That doesn’t mean that it is appropriate to send clouds of THC filled smoke in the direction of underage kids that may also be in the area.
3. The law
For most of the areas listed, at least in Canada, there are strict regulations that could result in fines if you are caught smoking marijuana in the wrong shared space. This is true for both public and private residential areas. Both of which can be governed with enforceable no smoking rules for both cigarettes and cannabis.
4. Common courtesy
Even when there are no federal or provincial laws in place, it is often a good idea to check your surroundings as a common courtesy. Though we can partake in public marijuana use right now, that can easily change if too many of our non-consuming neighbors are made to feel uncomfortable in the spaces that we all must share. Therefore, it is always recommended to consider your neighbours and fellow citizens when deciding where and how you will be smoking marijuana.
Alternative cannabis products
The problem with smoking is that it is a method of ingestion that is difficult to contain. The smell and smoke can travel for a fair distance, making discreet marijuana use nearly impossible. Luckily, thanks to years of innovation by cannabis enthusiasts and some pretty incredible advances in the technology that is used in the industry, there are now plenty of options to choose from. All of which, offers a more precise way to control the dose of cannabinoids, little to no smell and a level of discretion that smoking marijuana could never compete with. Here are just a few of the most popular cannabis products that you can either find at your local dispensary or make for yourself with the right tools on hand:
• THC drops
• Oral spray
• Breath strips
• Chewing gum
• Topical lotions and salves
