Cannabis enthusiasts have different opinions when it comes to some things about this amazing plant, but one fact that we can all agree on is that it usually stinks! Of course, a fair number of us love to surround ourselves with the pungent aroma as it all by itself seems capable of inducing a unique sense of relaxation. Still, even if it’s our favourite thing, we don’t necessarily always want everyone else around us to be able to smell it.

There are some fantastic products on the market that are designed for just this purpose, to lock in the strong scents that are often produced by fresh cannabis, but they take time, money, and patience to get, something we don’t always have enough of and that’s why here, we’re going to show you how to make one at home, using basic materials that you might already have lying around.

How to make a smell proof bag that lasts

If you’re looking for a DIY smell-proof bag that will last through years of wear and tear, then this is it. It’s functional, effective, and even personalizable with the help of a few markers, paint, or stickers to decorate the outside layer.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 zipper pencil case (or fanny pack)
  • 1 large freezer bag
  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 hot glue gun + glue sticks

Instructions

  1. Open up the pencil case as much as possible.

  2. Slide the Ziploc bag inside to measure how much of the plastic will be needed to line the inside.

  3. Leave a bit of extra plastic hanging over the edges so that you have extra to work with, and then trim away any excess with a pair of scissors.

  4. Warm up a hot glue gun.

  5. Once the glue gun is ready, it’s time to get to work by putting a line of glue along the bottom seam of the pencil case. If there is none, then just try to place it in the middle at the very bottom of the bag.

  6. Now slide the plastic bag into the pencil case again just like you did for measuring it, and then press on the bottom to attach the pieces together. You may want to hold it this way for a moment until it hardens so that the seal does break free.

  7. Now, choose one of the inner sides of the pencil and cover it in zig-zagged lines of hot glue before applying a small amount of pressure to push the plastic down into place.

  8. Do the same thing with the other side.

  • At this point, you’ll have excess plastic hanging over the edges, but you want to make sure that the seal goes right up to the zipper to keep as much smell as possible inside, so do one more line of hot glue on either side of the zipper and press the last bit into place.

  • Use scissors to trim the excess plastic away from the zipper.

  • You’ve now got a smell-proof bag that can safely hide and hold all of your favourite cannabis goodies.

How to make a temporary use smell proof bag

If you don’t have any of the things needed for the above project, or you just don’t feel like making it, then there is a simpler answer, however, it won’t be so pretty, and it’s generally only good for a handful of uses.

    What you’ll need:

    • 1 hair straightener (or iron)
    • 1 plastic bag

    Instructions

    1. Take any plastic bag and inspect it for holes while you let a hair straightener or iron get hot.

    2. If there are any holes, then use the hot metal plates to press the edges together, which will seal them up.

    3. Now, fill the bag with your weed, and if there is one, seal the zipper.

    4. Take the iron and run it along the edge of the plastic bag just above the zipper. If there isn’t a zipper, then just imagine where one would be and create a perfect seal there. Just be careful, as holding it too long in one spot risks melting it rather than sealing the deal.

Your bag is now smell-proof until you’re ready to open it up and let the pungent scents fly.
