Humidity salt packs for cannabis may be purchased at any retail store for a price, but the ones you find there are often small, and insufficient for those who store a larger than average amount of bud. They can also be cost prohibitive for anyone who is stuck on a limited budget. Luckily, you can still enjoy all of the benefits of humidity packs by making your own at home. It’s not hard, they come together for a fraction of the price, and they’re just as effective. Plus, you can make small adjustments to accommodate unusual environmental factors, and here we’ll show you how.

How to make humidity packs

DIY humidity packs might not look as attractive as store-bought options, but they work just as well, and they’re far more affordable. The problem is that they need to be made big enough for the stash they are meant to preserve and that can be difficult when you’re storing larger amounts of flower. Luckily, be it big or small, we’ve got a solution that will keep your stash fresh and hydrated without going so far as to add unnecessary humidity.

Small stash

This recipe will create humidity salt packs that are perfect for those who want to store a few ounces or less of cannabis for an extended period of time.

What you’ll need:

  • Scale (one that measures in grams)
  • 20 grams of distilled water
  • 13 grams of non-iodized salt
  • 4 grams of granulated sugar
  • Salt and peppers shaker (empty, with a screw-on lid)
  • Paper bag
  • Scissors
  • Hygrometer

Instructions

  1. Add the distilled water to a salt or pepper shaker.

  2. Follow up with the 4 grams of granulated sugar and mix the two ingredients well until the granules dissolve completely.

  3. Next up is the salt, ensure there’s enough room, and proceed to add all of the salt then cover the opening with a paper bag, then screw the lid onto the container.

  4. Give the homemade humidity pack a good shake before trimming away any excess paper.

  5. Place the freshly made humidity pack into your container of weed, close it up, and voila! You’re all done!

Big stash, more than 1 ounce

Genetica

These humidity packs will keep a whole bucket of weed nice and fresh for months on end, making it best for those who grow larger amounts of cannabis.

What you’ll need:

  • Scale (one that measures in grams)
  • 100 grams of distilled water
  • 70 grams of non-iodized salt
  • 17 grams of granulated sugar
  • Large mason jar with rim (lid not required)
  • Paper bag
  • Scissors
  • Hygrometer

Instructions

  1. Weigh out 100 grams of distilled water and add it to the mason jar.

  2. Next, pour all of the sugar into the jar ensuring that all of the sugar granules have fully dissolved before moving on to the salt. This is important, because if you add the salt too soon, then there won’t be enough liquid left to break down the remaining sugar.

  3. Now slowly add the salt bit by bit, stirring the mixture with a small spoon until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  4. Cover the jar with the paper bag and use the rim to seal the deal.

  5. There will be plenty of excess paper hanging over the edges, and now is a good time to trim that away with a good pair of scissors.

Adjusting your homemade humidity salt packs to compensate for different environments

These homemade humidity packs are adjustable. If you need a lower RH, then simply add a bit more sugar. For a higher RH, add less sugar to mix until you find the ideal combination.
