When people grow weed, they tend to harvest the parts of the plant that they find to be most appealing, and they’re quick to toss away everything else. The most sought after portion of the cannabis plant is, of course, the flower, but if you’re one of the many growers that are still tossing your trimmings, stems, and roots, then you’ve still got a whole lot more to discover.

The waste that takes place in conventional growing is incredible. In the past, we found a way to utilize the benefits of every single part of the plant. So there is no real reason that we shouldn’t continue with that tradition today, and that is why we decided to show you what to do with cannabis roots using five simple examples that anyone can reproduce at home.

1. Powder

One of the longest-used methods of preparation for cannabis roots turns these incredible plant pieces into a fine dust-like powder that can be used in a variety of ways. It can be sprinkled onto food as a supplement, smoked, used to fill capsules, or turned into potent beverages of all sorts.

Step 1 – Use either a coffee grinder or an old fashioned herb grinding bowl to powderize cannabis roots after they’ve completely dried.

Step 2 – Store the cannabis root powder into sealable jars, and then store them away in a cool dark place until you’re ready to use it.

2. Tincture

Some of the best tinctures are made using cannabis roots, and one of the great things about this idea is that you have a wide range of tincture bases to chose from. You could use regular old alcohol, apple cider vinegar, or vegetable glycerine, depending on the taste and texture that you’re looking for.

Step 1 – Choose the base for your cannabis tincture, and then add it to a slow cooker.

Step 2 – Toss in a handful of freshly picked or dried roots, or if you prefer, a few tablespoons of cannabis root powder.

Step 3 – Set the slow cooker to medium heat, and let it steep for anywhere from 6-8 hours to extract the beneficial properties, and once it’s done, you’ll have a tincture that can be stored or enjoyed immediately.

3. Topicals

Both boiled cannabis root water and dry powder can be turned into a broad range of topical products. These products can do everything from decreasing inflammation to reducing pain or redness, speeding up healing, and it can be soothing on some of the most irritating skin conditions. Cannabis roots can also be used to infused carrier oils which helps to maximize absorption of the elements through the skin, and it’s straightforward to do.

Step 1 – Choose your method of preparing cannabis roots.

Step 2 – Select a carrier oil.

Step 3 – Add either a small amount of boiled water or dry powder made using cannabis roots to your favourite carrier oil.

Step 4 – Use this mixture as is, or use it to make homemade skin creams or
ointments.

4. Nutrients

Cannabis roots often are hidden beneath the dirt, but they contain some of the highest concentrations of nutrients out of any other part of the plant, mostly when they’re consumed raw. However, some people prefer to utilize the benefits of cannabis roots by grinding it up into a powder before adding it to food so that the texture and taste aren’t quite as noticeable.

Step 1 – Make the dish you want to add cannabis roots to.

Step 2 – Use powdered roots or freshly picked ones to sprinkle on all different kinds of food, including salad, gravy, meat mixtures, and so much more.

5. Tea

The benefits of marijuana roots are simplest to obtain by making them into a delicious steeped tea because the process will extract all of the fantastic terpenes and cannabinoids. Still, you will need to add a small amount of butter to the mixture so that the cannabis elements have something to cling to.

Step 1 – Bring 1 cup of water to a boil.

Step 2 – Add in cannabis roots.

Step 3 – Scoop up half of a teaspoon of butter, and then add it to the water.

Step 4 – Bring the liquid to a boil, and then reduce the heat enough to maintain a steady simmer for 30 minutes.

Step 5 – Remove the cannabis roots from the water using cheesecloth or a fine mesh filter, and then flavour the tea according to your personal preference using sugar, milk, sweetener, cream, or honey.
