When it comes to weed pipes, you could spend years and countless dollars collecting every unique piece that you come across, but they will always be based off a handful of similar designs. One hitter weed pipes are quickly becoming a hot topic, especially among those who seek convenient, compact options that are easy to take on the road.

What is a one hitter pipe?

The one hitter's title eludes to their purpose, as these weed pipes are intended to provide the user with only one large hit. They are typically small enough that they can comfortably fit into the palm of your hand, and to the unknowing spectator, they often look just like a regular cigarette. Some are even painted to mimic them on purpose, with detailed painted on filters on paper, so that you can enjoy your toke with discretion, but not all one-hitter weed pipes are made that way.

Glass one hitter pipes are typically the most recommended, as the heatproof material won’t leech anything into the smoke. Those are followed by silicone, and then heavy-duty metals like aluminum or steel. However, technically you can make a one-hitter out of anything, and it’s one of the easiest weed pipes to toss together when you are stuck in a pinch, with no rolling papers on hand. Here, we will show you how to make 3 different one-hitters from the easiest and most disposable, to one that can last several years with the proper care.

How to make one-hitter weed pipes

1. Pen or marker casing one-hitter pipe

Pros

  • Cheap
  • Fast
  • Simple
  • Efficient

Cons

  • If you choose to use a casing that is made of plastic or some other material that melts under the heat of a lighter, then there is always a possibility of chemicals leeching into the smoke.
  • Not recommended for multiple uses

You will need

  • Pen or marker casing
  • Metal screen (or aluminum foil and toothpick)

Instructions

  1. If you haven’t already, empty the casing and rinse it clean of any ink residue. Metal pens work the best for this, but a simple plastic big pen can work too, as long as you are careful with how much heat is applied.

  2. Fold either a screen or aluminum foil into a neat bowl shape that can be slid into the widest opening of the pen casing. For those using foil, a few small holes must be pierced with a toothpick or pin to allow to airflow.

  3. It’s that easy, your one-hitter pipe is now ready to take on its very first test run.

2. Toilet paper roll one-hitter pipe

Pros

  • Everyone has toilet paper rolls lying around for free
  • Excellent way to reuse cardboard before recycling
  • Fast
  • Easy

Cons

  • Cardboard can light on fire easily
  • Not reusable
  • Impossible to clean

You will need

WW
  • 1 empty toilet paper roll
  • Aluminum foil
  • Toothpick
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Once you have found a toilet paper roll that is suitable for the task at hand, it is important that you remove as much of the residual glue and paper as possible.

  2. Now pierce the roll with scissors and cut a tiny hole, that is just big enough to fit one full-sized hit.

  3. Shape a piece of aluminum foil by molding it around your pinky finger, tugging on the sides gently to narrow the bowl until it slides into the one-hitter.

  4. This last step is up to you, as technically the one-hitter is ready to use, as long as you are willing to keep the open end sealed off with the palm of your hand. However, if you prefer the more user-friendly weed pipes, then close off the end nearest to the bowl with aluminum foil.

3. Glass one-hitter pipe

Pros

  • Healthiest option on this list
  • Reusable
  • Washable
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Glass is difficult to cut into
  • Breakable

You will need

  • Dremel
  • Glass bottle or tube
  • Metal screen or aluminum foil
  • Safety glasses

Instructions

  1. A glass one-hitter is one of the most challenging weed pipes to recreate at home, as the specific tools and materials are important, and some of them can be difficult to work with. Once you have located a reasonably sized glass tube, get out the safety glasses and prepare a Dremel with a fine bit.

  2. Slowly and gently work the Dremel in a circular motion near the bottom half of the jar or tube on the side. After several times of going around the glass, a piece will eventually pop right out. Remember to start small, as you can always make the bowl larger, but you can’t put the glass back to reduce its size.

  3. Once you are satisfied with the size of the bowl, it is time to give the whole thing a good cleaning so that you don’t accidentally inhale glass particles which could be damaging to your throat and lungs.

  4. The final step is to install a screen or aluminum foil covering, that will hold the cannabis grind into place. If you are using foil, poke some holes to allow for airflow, otherwise, you won’t be able to get a hit. When the bowl is complete, the one-hitter is ready to fill and use.
